Two marches on Washington. Two starkly differently worldviews. One view states that it always the woman’s right to choose anything and everything that goes on within her body. The other, that ALL life needs to be carefully considered before making a decision that alters the life of another. Namely that before you were born, you were in the mind of God.
He says of Jeremiah (1:5) “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
Paul says in Galatians 1:15, “But when God, who set me apart from birth Or “from my mother’s womb” in some translations) and called me by his grace”
David the king and psalmist, sings, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” (Psalm 139:13-16)
The Bible is unequivocal in its stance that the human life begins in the womb, and that only God, as its Creator, has the parameters in which life is given and taken away. The battle begins, however, with those who don’t take HIM seriously.
44 years ago, January 22nd, 1973, abortion was legalized in the United States of America, decided by nine men in the Supreme Court. Since that time, untold millions of human lives in the womb have been snuffed out by men in abortion clinics. Of course, this man needs to step out and speak out.
Since the infamous event of Roe vs. Wade, pro-choice arguments have increasingly been debunked, time and time again, by the very science of embryology itself, proving the unique characteristics of the unborn child from its mother, even down to its own blood-type, and the sheer complexity and capacity of the embryo, mere weeks from his/her conception, boggles the mind!
Yet, even if biblical arguments, logical arguments, scientific arguments, and arguments from our nation’s founding documents fail to convince one that each life is created in the “imago Dei” (the image of God), therefore every life has intrinsic value, we must fight on. Our goal? To make the very concept of abortion unthinkable to all. As much as I hate even thinking about the various abortion procedures, on what actually happens in reality, I must, and it must move me to have the difficult conversations with others a representative or “ambassador” of God. (2 Corinthians 5:20)
In one of the least barbaric methods…to think that the FDA-approved Mifepristone aims to kill an unborn baby by blocking the progesterone necessary to sustain pregnancy, and the 2nd drug Misoprostol induces contractions and expels the unborn child prematurely…even at personal risk to the mother!
I must continue to think on these things. Why? Because of more women like Rebekah Buell, who in 2013, took those pills. Even though she grew up in a Baptist home, she went to a Planned Parenthood office thinking, “God’s just going to have to forgive me”. Fortunately for her and her son, at 9 weeks, acting on her conscience, she called a hotline for an abortion reversal, and progesterone treatments.
It was not too late. Even though the success rate is a little over 50%, God was gracious to Rebekah, and she was able to deliver a healthy newborn, Zechariah. But since the approved of the abortion drugs by the FDA in 2000, over a million women have also swallowed the pills, and have “effectively” terminated a life. My heart weeps for the millions of lives lost by “choice”, but also for those who have reached the point where they are even having to make that decision! We need to affirm the value of ALL lives, even in vowing to love & support the unwed mothers who would have a challenge ahead of them in choosing to keep the child! Would YOU be willing to adopt them and/or their child!?
When dealing with a woman who had sinned much in Luke chapter 7, Jesus said, “Her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.” Forgiveness is available, yes, even to abortionists, but we must all be willing to go to God on His terms!
One of the ways to “Live for Life” is through child-sponsorship. My wife and I are blessed by the opportunity to sponsor Samuel from Kenya & Luphrilim from India. I’ve heard that when you sponsor a child overseas (like through World Vision or Compassion International, you are impacting not one, but at least 5 lives! If the average family size is 4, then your support helps the whole family. You’re also supporting the Child Sponsorship worker. And if it’s “more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35), wouldn’t it be safe to say that your life is changed as well?
Think on it, today: How can you take a stand and “Live for Life” on an everyday basis?
